John Stanford and his wife
Cynthia, an SRN, saw while
working with tuberculosis and
leprosy in the developing world.
They realised that small amounts
of money could be made to go a
very long way in those
communities where poor people
are of necessity, thrifty.
A sensible way forward seemed
to be to mobilise supporters in
their local area to raise money
then to take it--without the
handicap ofintermediaries--from
this community to those in need.
